Home, Home PT 2

Christmas decorations

After 18 months of travelling around Australia and seeing so many wonderful things and experiencing some life changing stuff, coming home was a bit of a whirlwind. When we were getting ready to leave Australia I had a bitter sweet feeling - excited to come home but sad about leaving everyone we'd met and Australia.

However, those feelings quickly buggered off once I'd seen my family.

Without a doubt the best part of coming home is seeing everyone you've missed. After 18 months catching up and seeing old faces is the best feeling, especially with my family but obviously friends as well. Technology prevents any real home sickness but actually talking to people and big hugs can't be beaten.

Obviously catching up with friends is amazing as well. It's so nice because everyone has had so much going on we've all got stories to share so I never feel like I'm boring them with Australia stories. Although I do like to make sure they know that I left 36 degree heat to come home to 10 degrees and a lot of rain.

It's strange how familiar things feel. I've settled straight back into life at home and it's just like it was before in a comforting, lovely way. Nothing's really changed but, without sounding like an egotistical hippy backpacker, I have and that's a bit weird. The familiar is nice though especially when you're half getting used to being back home and trying to organise life.

The hardest thing is boredom. No one else's life stops because you get home. My mum took the afternoon off so we could run some errands and that was lovely but I can't expect people to stop their lives because I have nothing to do. Most days I'm on my own job hunting or trying to think of blog post ideas or pining after dogs on Facebook. So it can be boring but weekends have been full on with Christmas coming up and seeing as many people as possible, and slowly people are coming home from uni so it's good.

And some good news. I got myself a job which starts in the new year which means 2016 will get off to a good start.

I'm excited to be home and life back home is lovely espescially with everything so Christmasy.

Home is good, and so is travelling and I definitely have the travel bug now but home will always feel great.
